Attention and Care.
Hand Sharpening a sentimental knife takes patience, attention, and care. This is what goes into ALL of Edge of the Earth endeavors.
This knife is a beautiful brass and wood handle. No major chips or rust. Just needed a new re-edging and a polish. It came out razor sharp. From 800 grit to 12000 grit, by hand.
Knowledge.
A Deba knife is a hard knife to sharpen. Very thick hard steel is used and usually layered with other hard steels. This one was abused and really chipped on the edge. It took a lot of work and care, but the final result is a brand new knife, losing the least amount of steel possible. Knowing what you are working with is just as important as knowing how to work with it.
Expertise.
The tip cracked, so we cut it into and straight angle purely for aesthetics. We needed to use rust removal electrolysis to help restore this knife. There were a lot of divots and dimples the rust created. The knife was then polished by hand to remove the rest of the rust. And Sharpened from a 220 grit to a 12000 grit stone to recreate the single edge blade that it originally was when purchased.
